Selena
Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lenakinta'nija'peres," 16th, 1971 - March 31st 1995) Also known as Selena, is an American Tejano singer. Her contribution to fashion and music have made her the "Queen" of Tejano music. Selena is among the most well-known Mexican-American entertainers of the 20th century. In the year 2020, Billboard magazine put her in the third spot on their list of "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", based on both Latin albums as well as the Latin songs chart. For her choice of clothing the media referred to her as the Tejano Madonna. Her choices in clothing have brought her the title "Tejano Madonna" by various media outlets. Her reputation was frequently discredited in the 1980s , and was denied performances at Texas venues for her performance of Tejano music, which is a largely male-dominated genre. However, her popularity grew when she was awarded the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987, which she won nine times consecutively. The singer was signed to EMI Latin in 1989. Her self-titled debut album was released the following year. Her brother became her principal music producer and writer. Entre a Mi Mundo (1992) hit the top of the charts at one in the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums Chart for eight consecutive months. It was praised by music critics as the "breakthrough" album of her musical career. One of the songs on it, "Como la Flor" was one of her top song titles. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido was her 1994 album. It was one of America's top Latin albums. Critically, it was credited as the catalyst for Tejano music's first commercial phase. It became one of Latin music's most popular subgenres.
